Class Description
Level: Intermediate to Advanced— some art experience is required
Mary will demonstrate and discuss the journey from static to lively interpretations in watercolor. This class is not so much about technique as it is about letting the watercolor medium work to your advantage by slowly learning to “go with the flow.” Students will:
• Paint from from photo research supplied by instructor & still lifes
• Learn to “see” the subject matter in a new light
• Use looseness and color contrast to enhance dimensionality
• Layer paints to keep colors fresh and not muddy
• Use light, shadow, color reflection and composition to learn to
paint in a visually expressive and interpretive style
Supplies to Bring
• d’Arches 140lb cold press or similar — 1/2 sheet at the largest
• Your regular supplies: pencil, kneaded eraser, sketch paper, paints,
brushes, water container, palette, etc.
• I will be making paint color/brand and brush type suggestions as I
see what supplies you already have
• Phone/camera to take a picture if we work on a still life
